This is how our business was built and how it’s going from strength to strength.

2005: Our origins

PMC was founded by John O’Neill, a police officer with a 15-year career and an interest in the construction industry, especially the maintenance division. He wanted to turn this enthusiasm into a new career so took the leap in the early 2000s, working two jobs to help fund the start of business while he established a client base. John’s main ambition was to give his family financial stability and a better life.

The business and the team grew steadily. John gained repeat clients across a range of property types, including industrial estates, retail parks, high end office blocks, and hotels by providing a great service.

As well as building a solid local reputation, John’s priority was always longevity – to grow in the right way, even if it took a bit of time. Over the next ten years, he successfully built an excellent team and reputation so his clients were always well looked after.

2015: The second generation

In 2015, PMC passed from father to son and Ross O’Neill took over the business. “He taught me to always treat people the way you would want to be treated,” says Ross, reflecting on what his dad taught him about running a business, “whether that’s clients, subcontractors, or staff”.

There are elements of the business that Ross has been determined to keep the same. The company ethos has always been to put trust in the teams to do their job well and not micromanage them. Creating independence, initiative and accountability has always been the best environment for producing quality work and meeting deadlines. The team knows they’re trusted and valued and Ross can get on with growing the business.

Today: Modernising and moving forwards

A lot has changed since 2005. Building on his father’s legacy, Ross has focused on PMC’s online presence, including the branding,marketing and social media. He’s also a lover of systems and organisation, so he’s made sure the business’ processes are consistent and the work is constant and reliable.

Ross’ goal for PMC is to be the number one choice for maintenance and project work in the UK, growing to in members of staff and providing a full service across the country. To do this, he and the PMC team are focused on delivering a level of service that others can’t.

They’re sticking with what’s always worked for them and adopting new processes that can help them become even better.
